With Christmas firmly in the rear-view mirror, we are starting to see initial results from online and offline retail sales during the 2017 holiday shopping season. Using information collected from a panel of leading national retailers that provide data covering in-store and online inventory levels, our tracking data indicates spending among U.S. consumers buying virtual reality headsets was strong the week prior to Christmas (12/18/17-12/26/17) with a nationwide sell-through rate reaching 36.7% for some product models. Sales were particularly high among those shoppers buying Sony PlayStation VR headsets and bundles, which have benefited from recent price reductions.
